Museum Radio Show is a Hit!

The sports memories are runnin’ wild on 610/ESPN

The Museum of Sports Show has attracted a large and loyal audience in its first 15 months on air.

Philadelphia’s passionate sports fans enjoy sharing their memories and memorabilia collections during the pandemic lockdown of live sports, to the tune of some 65,000 loyal listeners per show.

“We are all walking, talking sports museums”, said co-host Doug Shimell.

The MoS Show airs every Thursday from 4-5 PM. The show averages 53,000 listeners on 610/ESPN and 12,000 more following on computers, phones and other devices. You can listen to the show at 610/ESPN, watch on the station’s Facebook Live, or call in to talk at 888-728-9941.

Also hosting the show is Museum President Lou Scheinfeld, the legendary sports executive whose show is his brainchild, and Museum Director of Community Outreach Susan Baxter.

“We’re thrilled for our teams,” said Scheinfeld, “but we’re more interested in who Connie Mack was, what made Richie Ashburn beloved, the greatness of Flyers’ Hall of Famers Bobby Clarke and Bernie Parent.

An all-star list of guests on the show include Flyers legend Bernie Parent, former Eagles players Vai Sikahema, Vince Papale, Kevin Reilly and Eagles sideline reporter Dave Spadaro, NBC Sports Philadelphia’s John Clark, Inquirer writers Sam Carchidi and Marcus Hayes, Flyers announcer Jim Jackson, 76ers broadcaster Marc Zumoff and so many more. Below is a list of guests to date.*

“We delve into their history,” says Baxter, “and ask them to share personal stuff about interacting with Philly’s infamous fans and their early experiences in the world of sports. Fans will talk about the Eagles’ Super Bowl win forever. What about the 1960 Eagles Championship team or watching Allen Iverson in the 2001 NBA Playoffs?”

“This is an incredible sports town,” added Scheinfeld, “with fans ripping out seats at Connie Mack Stadium’s last game in 1970 or catching a home run ball from Mike Schmidt .”

Sam Speiser, a manager at Beasley Media Group, said, “This is a hot button show that has resonated with regional fans. We expect it will be a part of our lineup for years.”
